One day refresher course for anyone using and doing Cognitive Analytic Therapy

10.30 – 17.00
Saturday, 3rd November, 2007
Kings College Franklin-Wilkins Building,
150 Stamford St, London, SE1 9NH

  • Catch up with the latest developments in CAT’s understanding of psychological distress
  • Join us in a day of reviewing our shared and different ways of applying CAT theory and methods
  • Compare notes with others about the best ways to make use of CAT in various settings and with different clinical populations.
  • What kind of Cognitive Analytic Therapy are you doing?
  • When did you last review your basic practice?
  • Has the model changed since you were introduced to it?
  • Is there something about the model and method that works particularly well or doesn’t work for you?

In the past twenty years Cognitive Analytic Therapy has developed in theory and practice at a rapid pace. It offers an integrative and relational framework for psychological therapy in a wide variety of professional settings and client treatment needs. It has appeal for mental health professionals in the public sector looking for a method which is manageable, addresses the therapeutic relationship and combines clarity of focus with depth of engagement. Those of us who have been actively involved in training and teaching the model in recent years see a need to bring people together to review diversity of approaches and share in identifying best practices and key points of theory.

The trainers for the day are Annalee Curran and Steve Potter. Both are trainers and supervisors of CAT and are UKCP accredited psychotherapists. Annalee Curran has used CAT for the past nineteen years in her work as a practice counsellor in a GP surgery and in private practice. Steve Potter is interested in using CAT as a versatile framework for a wide range of psychological work and is currently particularly interested in the application of CAT to performance and self esteem difficulties for musicians and narcissism and aggression at the heart of men’s ways of coping with hurt.
