St Thomas’ Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) Practitioner Training
4th October 2010

We are now reopening for a short period for applications to the next intake of the St Thomas Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) Practitioner Training starting in October 2010.  If anyone has given further thought to wanting to undertake the training or who missed the first closing date and now wishes to apply, please complete the application process urgently.  We are open to receive applications between 24 May and 14 June 2010.

The course starts in October 2010 and the Course Introductory Workshop is in July 2010.

The St Thomas’ CAT Practitioner Training is relevant to the needs of a diverse range of people working within the NHS and caring professions who wish to establish Cognitive Analytic Therapy as one of their core skills. It aims to develop trainees’ ability to work clinically with patients drawing on CAT skills and CAT theory. Following successful completion of the course trainees will be accredited to practise CAT within their core profession, become full professional members of ACAT and will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Analytic Therapy from Sheffield Hallam University.

The taught element of the course lasts two years and consists of three modules per year. Each year there are ten teaching days, as well as seminars, tutorials and supervised clinical work. In addition, there will be a two day Introductory Workshop and trainees are also expected to complete a 16 week personal CAT therapy. The time commitment for the course often extends beyond two years, given the requirement to complete supervised clinical work.

The teaching team will be the Course Director, Hilary Beard, together with co-trainers Martin Wrench and Harriet Gamble. In addition a variety of trainers will be involved in all aspects of the course.
