‘Catalyse’ is the not-for-profit training, consultancy and research arm of ACAT North. We have organised this refresher day in CAT as continuing professional development for practitioners who are aware that the interface between public and private practice is changing, and who want to explore the challenges and opportunities this brings. The day will include speed supervision (yes, as in speed dating), network building and sharing of new ideas and best practice in CAT. Come and join us if you answer ‘yes’ to any one of these questions:
-
Are you doing or using Cognitive Analytic Therapy as part of your work?
-
Are you working on your own in the public sector or independently?
-
Are you contemplating mixing work in the public sector with some private work?
-
Would you like a secure and supportive framework for your independent practice?
-
Are you looking for a wider mix of clinical experience beyond your specialist area of work?
-
Are you interested in developing your CAT consultancy practice?
-
Do you want to catch up with how other practitioners are getting on with their clinical practice?
-
Do you think there might be strength in numbers for lone practitioners?
-
Would you like to explore being part of a practitioners’ network offering supervision, CPD sessions, online consultation, mentoring, and service evaluation?
-
Do you want to hear about Catalyse and its plans for the future?
Facilitators: Steve Potter and Glenys Parry are both part of Catalyse, the ACAT North Trainers’ Group.
Steve Potter is Chair of the International Cognitive Analytic Therapy Association and trains and supervises a wide variety of professional groups in CAT. He is interested in the unique power of the shared and creative experience of making CAT maps together and talking about the feelings involved.
Glenys Parry co-ordinates the ACAT North Practitioner Training course; she is active as a CAT trainer, supervisor and consultant. She is interested (among other things!) in the potential of CAT to help a wide range of NHS managers and health professionals work more effectively and with greater job satisfaction.
Programme:
Morning 10.00-12.30 · Welcome and introductions · Brief refresher session on varieties of CAT maps and diagrams and their uses · Identifying common themes to independent practice through CAT-informed speed supervision · Forum discussion
Afternoon 13.30-16.00 · Threats and opportunities for CAT practitioners and psychotherapists in the NHS, the third sector and private practice in the next decade · CAT as an enabling framework for a portfolio approach to private practice and working in the NHS and public sector · Forming a network, farewells and follow up plans
Possible outcomes from this CPD day:
· Independent practitioners’ network: sharing publicity, secretarial support, monitoring of standards, referrals and evaluation … run along co-operative lines.
· Quality circle to provide supervision, to develop CPD events, online seminars … and to meet professional and ethical standards.
· Develop a special interest group within ACAT to revive the private practice network through a not-for-profit collaborative framework …
· Shared use of an ACAT Independent Practitioners’ Logo
