Overview

This course will provide participants with an introduction to the theory and practice of Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT).

Who should attend?
This course would be of interest to mental health professionals who are interested in using an integrative, transdiagnositc, relational approach to their clinical practice. It would also be useful for those considering whether to apply for a two year CAT Practitioner Training Course.

Course Aims

  • To introduce course participants to the theory and practice of CAT
  • To discuss key concepts used in CAT, including reciprocal roles & the concept of a dialogical self (the social formation of a multiple self)
  • To explore the use of CAT tools in therapeutic practice, including collaboratively written reformulation letters, diagrams and goodbye letters
  • To consider current applications of CAT in the NHS

Dr Dee Affleck
Dee is a counselling psychologist working in the NHS and with a small private practice. She is a CAT therapist, supervisor and trainer. In her NHS work she works with people experiencing severe and complex mental health difficulties. In addition to supervision, Dee offers CAT supervision and team consultation / reflective practice work. She is co-director of the CAT Scotland practitioner training course.
* Dee will be joined by a range of other CAT Therapists from a range of professional disciplines over the four day training programme
