Two Day Introduction to Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) for People with Intellectual Disabilities

This workshop is being organised by the Intellectual Disabilities Special Interest Group (SIG)

Venue:    Brooklands Hospital, Birmingham

Time:      9.30-17.00

Suitable for those with an interest in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) who work with individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, the aim of this course is to provide a clear introduction to the principles and practice of CAT and its application to people with intellectual disabilities. Whilst it would be helpful for those attending to have some understanding of psychological ideas and methods in relation to mental health, it is suitable for those with little or no experience of CAT. The introduction course will increase participant’s understanding of the structure of therapy, reciprocal roles and dialogical understanding of problem patterns, enactments and therapeutic moments, within the context of working with individuals with intellectual disabilities. Participants will have the opportunity to practice writing CAT letters and mapping reformulation diagrams, along with identifying options for future training or supervision.

For enquiries about the clinical nature of the course etc please email Julie.Lloyd4@ntlworld.com
