Overview of workshop:
The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way we work with Cognitive Analytic Therapy with more therapies being offered online or by phone. After the lockdown, we believe our ways of working will have changed permanently, with more use of blended therapies, combining face to face work with new technologies.
This day aims to build awareness of ways CAT can be blended, supported, enhanced and delivered using digital technologies. It will provide an opportunity to learn about the recently developed CAT app, designed to support face to face therapy practice. Participants will take away practical tools, skills and resources for continuing their journey with digital CAT.
Aims and learning outcomes:
The day is designed to help participants:
- Learn about current best practice in delivering CAT remotely, through video, phone or messaging options
- Consider their own reciprocal roles and procedural enactments in relation to these technologies
- Know how to assess suitability for online CAT or blended therapy
- Understand ethical issues and risks associated with online delivery and internet-based therapies
- Consider their own digital footprint as a therapist and how clients may track therapists’ lives & views online
- Know how to stay safe online and manage the interface between the NHS and the internet.
Who is it for?
This event is suitable for both CAT practitioners & psychotherapists , and trainee CAT practitioners
Facilitators:
Glenys Parry is a CAT psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer with a longstanding interest in e-therapies. She has used a range of synchronous and asynchronous methods in CAT as well as researching the effectiveness and acceptability of computerised therapy. In this field, she has co-authored several publications, and contributed to the development of the new CAT app.
Stephen Kellett is a CAT psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer. He leads the research team developing and evaluating a mobile app to enhance recognition and revision during CAT. The new app will be launched at this workshop. He has published widely in CAT research.
Cal Nield is a CAT psychotherapist and supervisor who has been a ‘digital’ therapist since 2017. She holds the Diploma in Online Counselling and Psychotherapy from ACTO, the Academy for Online Therapy and Counselling. She hosts the Technology Assisted Supervision and Therapy (TAST) special interest group in ACAT and offers workshops and supervision in these methods.
Jo Varela is a member of the team that developed the CAT App, and has written about this in the ACAT journal Reformulation in 2016. She uses mobile apps in CAT, and has adapted CAT to a number of contexts. These include work with young children, people with learning disability and systemic formulation in organisational development.
