Background Information

I am offering brief and longer term counselling for a whole range of psychological problems.
I specialize in time-limited CAT treatment and can also provide longer-term psychodynamic therapy. Either of which can include a creative arts element at the choice of the Client if assessed and agreed as appropriate.. I am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP), an accredited Cognitive Analytic Practitioner, Health Professions Registered Music Therapist and I hold the half-time post of Lead Clinical Specialist in Arts Therapies in Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

 If you have an arts based creative desire that you have never had a chance to safely express without being judged, this may be included within your CAT therapy at a time that feels right for you. For example:

  • If you find it easier to express yourself through other mediums rather than with words;
  • If you find it difficult to put your thoughts and feelings into words.
  • If you feel numb and can’t access your feelings;
  • If you simply feel a little bit adventurous and would like to experiment with how different sounds affect you.

Choosing the Therapist who feels right for you is important. Your therapy session is time for you to share what you feel safe enough to confide. Sometimes when thinking about starting therapy we can feel uncertain or curious about whether the person we might choose is both knowledgeable and experienced enough to be able to understand and help with our issues. You are paying a fee in order to get to grips with your own specific issues. Yet we might need reassurance that this person is robust, astute, has integrity and that none of the personal circumstances brought to therapy are either insurmountable or insignificant. I have worked as a therapist with a very wide range of clients from those suffering with eating disorders, people in gay relationships, others following major bereavement, trauma,  physical and sexual abuse, neglect, abandonment, job loss, mothers dealing with children with special needs as well as with offenders in secure treatment settings.
