Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or Psychotherapist for Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT)

0.6wte Band 8a

Fixed term contract to 31 March 2020

Haringey Adult Community Mental Health Service is looking to recruit a skilled and experienced clinician to join as a specialist in cognitive analytic therapy (CAT).

The key responsibilities of the post will be to coordinate the CAT waiting list, to provide supervision to qualified multi disciplinary staff and trainees delivering CAT and to provide a direct clinical service, providing psychological assessment for a range of models of therapy, and delivering CAT.

Haringey Adult Community Services aim to promote excellence and innovation in the provision of care to patients with challenging and complex presentations.  A range of new approaches have been developed within Haringey, from mentalisation based therapy for personality disorder to the integrated psychologically informed team based care that the Psychosis  Pathway and the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) pathways now offer. CAT is the primary model used to inform case formulation and the group treatment programme within the innovative care provided by the Mood Anxiety and Personality Difficulty Pathway (MAP). We have considerable experience in providing and hosting training, ranging from clinical placements for a variety of professionals to organised training events in a range of psychological therapies.  Psychological therapies provision within Haringey has a history of excellence and we have over 20 psychologists and psychological therapists working within outpatient adult mental health services, all based at St Ann’s Hospital.  This post offers excellent opportunities to further develop specialist assessment, therapy, supervision and consultation skills in working with service users with challenging and complex presentations.

Candidates should have a core health professional qualification (nursing, social work, occupational therapy, clinical or counselling psychology) and registration with the appropriate professional body.  Applicants will also be accredited by ACAT to CAT practitioner level and be ACAT accredited CAT supervisors.

Haringey has a strong history of providing CAT and until recently hosted the North London ACAT training programme. There are many CAT therapists in post across the Adult Community  Services with backgrounds from a range of disciplines. Staff members are using CAT in innovative ways across a number of teams and plans for development of CAT research are ongoing.
