This workshop is available to all CAT therapists. It will count as 5 CPD hours towards Modules 1 or 4 of the CAT Supervisor Training Programme for trainee supervisors.
Overview of the day
The day will provide a safe space to discuss and explore therapeutic issues linked to race, language, and culture. CAT framework will be used as scaffolding.
The main focus will be on race, racism, power and privilege and the intersects with language and culture. The workshop will focus on CAT practice and supervision in the context of equality, diversity and intersectionality. The aim is to support CAT therapists in working sensitively and effectively with individuals and client groups with protected characteristics.
The day will combine presentation, large and small group discussion, and clinical case scenarios.

Attending this event will support participants in developing the skills needed to work effectively with difference and diversity. Participants are invited to bring clinical case scenarios for discussion.
Reading list and some resources for further professional development will be provided.
Facilitator
Jessie Emilion is a counsellor, cognitive analytic psychotherapist, supervisor, and trainer. She has worked in the NHS as a senior clinician for the last 20 years.
Jessie is the CAT Psychotherapy Lead at the Munro Centre, for South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation, leads on ACAT's Inequality and Diversity Special Interest Group, a member of the UKCP EDI Task Force and BACP EDI Task and Finish Group. She is also a mentor for the RISE BAME Mentoring programme funded by Health Education England.
Jessie has an interest in bi-lingualism, culture and race, and the impact of these constructs on mental health. She has extensive experience of working with refugee communities as a clinician and an interpreter.
