The neuroscience of the last few decades is shedding light on what happens in the brain, body and mind during and after trauma.
We will consider the neurobiology of Trauma, focusing especially on Porges’s Poly Vagal Theory, and the work of van der Kolk.
CAT was for many years ahead of the game in relation to the treatment of Trauma and dissociation, but we now need to take on board new findings and new practices, to enrich what we already do, and the CAT model itself.
We will look at what CAT has always done well in relation to trauma and dissociation – and some of its shortcomings and deficits, especially in relation to embodiment, working with the right brain, and understanding and working with the autonomic nervous system.
Many new psychotherapeutic approaches for trauma and/or dissociation have emerged in recent years. We will discuss the features common to all trauma therapies.
Vignettes and experiential exercises will be used to demonstrate how to incorporate the new science, and some new practices which can be incorporated into CAT.
More detail will be provided once confirmed.
