Learning Objectives
Online therapy is increasingly commonplace in the NHS and in private practice. The use of technology assisted therapy presents both opportunities and challenges. Robert Watson and Cal Nield have many years of experience of offering online psychotherapy and training therapists to offer it ethically and effectively, and will guide you through the main issues to consider relationally and practically when offering psychotherapy online.
The workshop will:
1. Review conceptualisations of the therapeutic alliance and reflect upon how the online therapeutic relationship may be facilitated and hindered by factors related to the use of technology.
2. Facilitate reflection around the issues presented by offering therapy to clients ‘online’ using technology.
3. Introduce the ethical, legal, security, and GDPR frameworks that online therapy lies within.
4. Outline best practice when offering online psychotherapy, including when it may not be appropriate
