The Psychotherapy Department at St Thomas’ Hospital has a vacancy for a Senior Adult CAT Psychotherapist 1 session (3.75 hrs) per week.
The Psychotherapy Service based at St Thomas’ Hospital provides psychotherapy assessments, treatment, teaching and supervision. The treatment programme consists of Group Psychotherapy. Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), medium and long-term individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (PDP), medium and long-term individual Supportive Psychotherapy (SP).
The service provides treatment for a range of mental health disorders including patients with a history of psychosis and psychotic episodes, bipolar disorders, personality disorders, severe neuroses such as chronic depression and anxiety disorders. Many patients have dual diagnosis with substance abuse, eating disorders, severe somatic disturbance, deliberate self-harm and have experienced physical or sexual abuse.
The post-holder will be expected to work autonomously as a Senior Adult CAT Psychotherapist in the delivery of CAT to patients with complex and severe problems. They will also be able to offer CAT advice and consultation to other mental health professionals. The post-holder will also be expected to undertake continuing professional development in CAT psychotherapy and utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development.
This post will involve adhering to some fixed sessional time with which the post-holder will be required to comply. Details are available on request.
We are inviting and encouraging applicants from minority ethnic backgrounds to apply for this post.
The applicant will need to:
- have undertaken a recognised qualification in one of the core mental health professions e.g. psychiatric nursing, clinical psychology, social work, occupational therapy etc. or to have other relevant experience and demonstrable competence to practice in the mental health field in the NHS.
- have a qualification and training in CAT Psychotherapy and be registered as a CAT Psychotherapist with ACAT and with UKCP.
- have experience of offering time limited and longer term group and individual psychodynamic psychotherapies to a wide range of patient problems.
