Introduction to Cognitive Analytic Therapy with people with Intellectual Disabilities

This is a CAT Special Interest Group event with booking available through ACAT

Following the success of this course, which has been previously over-subscribed, we are happy to offer it again. This two-day introduction to the model and methods of Cognitive Analytic Therapy is aimed at psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, care managers, creative therapists and support workers in Intellectual Disability services. The aim of this course is to provide a clear introduction to the principles and practice of Cognitive Analytic Therapy in services for people with intellectual disabilities.  The course is also suitable for practitioners who know CAT already but may be interested in the ID aspect.

Topics include: CAT within the context of care and referrals in ID services, early learning stories and reciprocal roles, mapping and describing relationships, working with staff teams, creative approaches to accessible therapy, the process of collaborative CAT therapy and the active use of time and endings. 

Presenters: David Wilberforce, Consultant/ Trainer in Private Practice and integrative psychotherapist, Jo Varela, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and CAT Practitioner and Perry Morrison Consultant Clinical Psychologist and CAT practitioner.  They are all members of the CAT Special Interest Group for people working with people with intellectual disabilities, currently in its 12th year. Between them they have experience of working with People of all ages, in community, hospital and forensic settings.

o    case material to demonstrate and develop skills in the use of therapeutic methods 
o    lecture presentations and small group work

Refund Policy:  A refund, less a £25 administration fee, will be made if cancellations are received, in writing, at least four weeks before the event. We regret that any cancellation after this time cannot be refunded, and refunds for failure to attend the event cannot be made.
