The Dialogic Self in CAT

Or: all you need to know about Bakhtin but were afraid to ask!

This all day workshop is suitable for a wide range of participants ranging from those with some background in CAT to supervisors and trainers. The workshop will include taught and experiential components, as well as plenty of opportunity for dialogue and debate. The ideas are heavily influenced by the work of Mikhail Bakhtin.

Ideas to be covered include:

  • How do we know who we are?
  • Authoring the self through dialogue
  • The limits of ‘self-accounting’
  • Conscious and unconscious in CAT
  • The ’true self’ or ‘the real me’
  • ‘Being with’, ‘being to’, and ‘doing with’
  • ‘Outsideness’ and ‘insideness’

Cost (inclusive of lunch and refreshements): £65 (£40 for trainees)
