Working Creatively in CAT with Dreams and Stories - offered by Catalyse
30th November 2016

WARNING! This event has passed.

The workshop:

An interactive workshop incorporating a mix of teaching, experiential and practice exercises.

Tony Ryle commented on dreams:

‘Their meaning to the patient and their relation to the therapy can be considered jointly by patient and therapist in the same way as all the other communications of the patient’ (1991).

The facilitators will introduce participants to techniques based on Fritz Perls’ approach to dream analysis. They will share their own practice working with dreams in therapy, demonstrating this with a case study illustrating how such techniques fit elegantly with the CAT model and CAT tasks.

The second part of the day will consider application of these techniques to extend the Six Part Story Method, and as a means of creatively exploring other constructs or themes present in the therapy.

Workshop objectives:

Participants will make use of active learning approaches to:

  • learn about Fritz Perls' ideas for working with dreams in therapy
  • learn about Six Part Story Method technique
  • consider and practise how to integrate and apply these two techniques in relation to dreams, stories and to other materials arising in therapy

Who is it for?

CAT practitioners and psychotherapists, and other therapists who have some knowledge of CAT concepts.  Trainee CAT practitioners are also very welcome.

Facilitators:

Dr Sophie Rushbrook is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Nicola Coulter is an Occupational Therapist working at the Intensive Psychological Therapies Service (IPTS) a Beacon Service in Dorset.
