Supervision beyond the core CAT Tools

Module 4 of the CAT Supervisor Training Programme 

Presented by Jason Hepple

Timings: Arrival 9am for a 9:30am start, finish at 4:30pm

This day is suitable for anyone engaged in the ACAT supervisor training and also for more experienced practitioners who are interested in developing supervisory skills.

Supervision of trainees and those getting a first taste of CAT tends to be focused on the traditional CAT tools; Reformulation letter, Map and Goodbye Letter, and developing the core skills of Reformulation in the supervisee.

When supervising more experienced CAT therapists attention can be more to the deeper relational encounter between client and therapist; What is being neglected / disavowed? What parallel process is being enacted in the encounter between client and therapist and supervisor and supervisee? How can the form of the way the case is being presented shed light on these processes?

Jason will introduce his view of the metaphors that underlie CAT theory including: Intersubjectivity and The Witness and the Judge. The Chicken and Egg of enactment in CAT. The ‘shimmering’ between Bakhtinian Insideness and Outsideness. The Microcosm in CAT supervision.

The day will focus on the experiential development of clinical skills.
