Newcastle Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) Practitioner Training 2025-2027

APPLICATIONS RE-OPENED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 12^th 2024.

The Newcastle Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) Service, part of Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne & Wear NHS Trust’s Centre for Specialist Psychological Therapies, is now inviting applications for the 10th intake of our Practitioner Training in Cognitive Analytic Therapy.  This is a two year course, now starting in January 2025 rather than October 2024, leading to accreditation as a CAT Practitioner.

A first round of selection has already been undertaken and successful candidates informed.  We are now re-open for NHS England applications (see below) until September 12^th.

Details of the course can be found in the prospectus below.  There are two routes to training as a CAT practitioner: the "standard" route and the NHS England route.

The NHS England route is for those currently working in community secondary care services for Adults or Older Adults, primarily with those with complex relational problems who might meet a diagnosis of "personality disorder".  These places are fully funded by NHS England, for those in the North East and Yorkshire region of the NHS (including North Cumbria).  To apply, you must have the support of the psychological professions lead of your mental health trust, and you must meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the prospectus.  Please see the "Prospectus for NHS-E pathway", and the standard application form, in the documents below.

The "standard" route is for people working in other services to the ones listed above.  These places would be funded in the normal way - i.e. by your own employing NHS trust, or self-funded.  Standard pathway places on the next course are now full, but if you wish to contact us to discuss the standard route, or you are unsure which route is for you, please contact us.  The "Prospectus for standard pathway" remains in the documents below.

Timeline:

•          NHS England applicants:  please liaise with your psychological professions lead in the first instance, and if you have support from them in principle to apply, submit your         application before 12^th September 2024.
•          Interviews – late October 2024.
•          Places will be confirmed after interviews are complete.
