Functional Neurological Disorders (FND) are a common set of conditions presenting in acute medical services and Neurology departments. Functional symptoms are ubiquitous across healthcare and frequently form part of the constellation of difficulties experienced by people suffering with mental health difficulties.
Dr Leo Russell and Dr Rachael Carrick have been collaborating for nearly a decade on developing Functional Neurological Disorder services in Exeter, East and Mid Devon. They have published research on pathway development, clinical outcomes, and cost-efficacy of psychological therapies. They provide teaching and training on various aspects of FND work and presented at numerous international conferences on these topics.
In this workshop, they will give a brief overview of FND and current approaches to treatment management. This will be followed by presentations on the clinical application to FND of Cognitive Analytic Therapy (Dr Rachael Carrick) and Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy (Dr Leo Russell). This will include theory, practice and clinical vignette. There will be plenty of opportunity for questions, discussion and reflections throughout.
This event is being run by CAT South West with booking via ACAT.
