Our Values

We take pride in providing specialist care to our service users, where our Trust values and our promise to be caring, kind, polite, prompt, honest, listen and do what I say I’m going to do, is at the heart of everything we do. When you join us, you’ll be part of something special.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a secondary care psychological therapies team, providing assessment and treatment to patients with mood, anxiety and/or personality difficulties.

The role encompasses two days leading a managing a Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) service to Lewisham patients. The other three days could involve working with a multidisciplinary team in a neighbourhood base for up to three days per week, providing advice and shorter term therapies.

Members of Lewisham Integrated Psychological Therapies Team (IPTT) provide a range of therapies including cognitive, psychodynamic (including TFP), CAT, MBT, trauma therapies, systemic and group therapy. Good supervision and opportunities for collaboration are provided.

The post-holder would assess and treat patients with CAT, manage the CAT waiting list, run CAT supervision groups for trainees, and provide some training to trainees. You would need to be an ACAT accredited therapist, and either a CAT accredited supervisor or motivated to work towards supervisor accreditation. You would need to maintain good links with a London counselling psychology training course who currently place several trainees each year on CAT placement.

The post-holder will liaise with one of four local neighbourhood multi-disciplinary teams (MDT) to provide advice, screen referrals to IPTT and treat patients. S/he will be supervised by an experienced psychologist using whole-person psychological formulation and delivering treatment plans for complex cases. Lewisham is part-way through a re-organisation of its adult mental health services, this is to be determined. There may be opportunity to contribute and inform this re-organisation and new ways of working. The post offers an opportunity to work with difficult to engage patients, drawing on a range of evidence-based models.

The post-holder will have a doctoral degree or equivalent in clinical or counselling psychology or a professional adult psychotherapy training, and experience of working in a secondary-care adult mental health setting. If a psychologist you will be eligible for chartered status with the BPS and registered as a practitioner psychologist with the HCPC. If a psychotherapist, you will be have UKCP/BABCP/BPC registration or equivalent.

The Trust encourages and welcomes applications from people with lived experience of mental health challenges. We see this as valuable and recognise the positive impact this experience can have on the work we do.

Lewisham IPTT is in Lewisham hospital, eight minutes’ walk from Ladywell station, with good transport links including fast trains to London Bridge.

We are happy to answer questions on the phone. We will contact short-listed candidates to offer a meeting with a member of the team not involved in the recruitment, afternoon of 19th December. This is optional and will have no bearing on the selection process.
