It is 25 years since Cognitive Analytic Therapy was first named by Dr Anthony Ryle following the observation that: 'Working with patients to find the best descriptions of what it was we were trying to change as part of outcome research, demonstrated to me the power of collaboratively arriving at such descriptions...’ This early joint reformulation has remained the key feature of CAT, offering both the early creation of a non-authoritarian working relationship and yielding increasingly powerful tools of understanding and change.

In 2009, ACAT is one of the largest psychotherapy training organisations in the UK and, overseas, CAT trainings and/or supervision structures are in place in Finland, Eire, Australia, New Zealan, Greece, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria and Chile. Interest and passion for CAT has grown and evolved on the basis of its dialogic heart and its human way of reaching out to a wide range of clients. In the NHS, CAT now has a growing evidence base and active research programme and is named in NICE guidelines for personality and eating disorders.

The 3rd International CAT Conference aims to bring together those from around the world who have something to say about CAT or who simply want to find out more in a relaxed and enjoyable way at the BathUniversity campus. The Programme will include some internationally known speakers, present the latest CAT research (including RCTs) but, most importantly, will allow plenty of space for getting together in led dialogue streams and joint activities (both academic and social) in order to both celebrate the past and create the future of CAT together.
