I am happy to welcome readers to what I believe is an excellent edition of ACATnews. As this is the main edition for 2001 it contains some of the presentations from the 2001 ACAT Conference, which are well worth re-visiting. I am pleased too that Anna Jellema has chosen to reply to Tony Ryle, putting the case for Attachment Theory and Vygotskian/Bakhtinian Theories as mutually enhancing CAT theory rather than being separate "strands" as I had somewhat provocatively suggested some time ago. Further views on this debate are very welcome.

Tony Ryle further elaborates his conceptual thinking in his pieces in this edition.

It is good to read an account of creative clinical work from Steve Potter and his colleague Daniel Weinstein, and it would be interesting to hear other such accounts from people working in different settings.

CAT is moving into so many fields and there is so much to share from the coal face.

On the research front there is the good news from Sue Clarke in Dorset that a Randomised Controlled Trial is underway into the efficacy of CAT with borderline personality disorder.

Next year is the 10th Anniversary of ACAT and there will be a variety of ways in which we will seek to mark the milestone. It is hoped that the next edition of ACATnews will carry some reflections about these years from people at different stages of professional development in CAT and in different settings. If you would like to contribute to this then please do get in touch with the ACAT office.

The next edition will have a new editor. I am delighted that Mog Johnston has taken on this important job. My increased family and work commitments mean that I have to withdraw now, but I have enjoyed my time as editor and wish Mog well. Many thanks to Jon Sloper for his extremely effective design work and to Steve Potter for ensuring that this edition got to press.
