WARNING! This event has passed.

Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (NTW) CAT Service
in association with ACAT - the Association for Cognitive Analytic Therapy

Aims of the course
CAT Practitioner Training is a two-year in-service training in Cognitive Analytic Therapy for those who have a core mental health profession. The ACAT Practitioner award is equivalent to a Postgraduate Diploma. It leads to accreditation as a full Member of ACAT. For those seeking accreditation as a Psychotherapist, this course fulfils the entry requirements for CAT Psychotherapy Training (IRRAPT) which takes a further two years and leads to UKCP registration. NTW Foundation Trust and its predecessor Trusts have been offering CAT Practitioner Training since 2004.

Please see attached documents for full information about the course. They are in two sets, one for staff currently employed by Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust (NTW), and the other for staff not employed by NTW. With the exception of personal therapy fees, the course is free of charge to current NTW staff.

Award
The NTW course has been part of the national Association for Cognitive Analytic Therapy (ACAT) programme of CAT Practitioner training running across twelve centres and leading to a dual award:  ACAT Practitioner and PG Diploma with Sheffield Hallam University (SHU).

The collaboration between ACAT and SHU which has existed since 2008 is closing in 2013.  Following discussions, this means that further ACAT Practitioner trainings will not run in conjunction with Sheffield Hallam University.  We can confirm that this course, leading to ACAT Practitioner award, will run in exactly the same way and this will not affect the quality of the course provided and the ACAT Practitioner status bestowed on successful graduates.

ACAT anticipates continuing to offer the dual award at PG Diploma level and over the next few months, ACAT will be talking with new potential collaborative partners.  It is likely that if we set up a new collaboration the courses will be credit rated in the same way and that the new intakes will be included in this dual award.  However, at the current time, we cannot guarantee this outcome.  We will update applicants and trainees once any new partner arrangements are established.

Course Structure
The course lasts over two years and consists of 20 training days, weekly supervision groups, supervised clinical cases, reading seminar groups, four pieces of written work and a personal CAT training therapy.

Training Team
Sally-Anne Ennis, Anna Jellema and Steve Clarke are the core course trainers. Some training days, particularly in the second year, involve invited presenters. Other ACAT supervisors and seminar leaders also participate in the course.

Venues
Training days are held on Wednesdays in Newcastle upon Tyne, approximately monthly. Supervision groups run in Newcastle (Walkergate Park) and Sunderland (Ryhope), and may be available at other venues. Seminar groups are arranged by groups of trainees at locations convenient to all.

Fees
£10 for application; £40 if called for interview.
Training and supervision are free of charge to staff currently employed by NTW Foundation Trust.
Non-NTW Trust staff pay fees: £2000 per year of the course for training (including ACAT and potential University registration fees); £1000 per year for supervision (if provided by the NTW CAT Service).
The cost of personal CAT training therapy is normally paid by the trainee – approx £700.
