Richmond Upon Thames [Karen Spencer]

I am an ACAT accredited Cognitive Analytic Therapist and a qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist, having studied at the Tavistock in London and within the Sussex Partnership NHS Trust. I am also a fully trained EMDR therapist.

I offer both long-term and short-term therapy  within my Richmond-Upon-Thames practice. As a cognitive analytic therapist I offer therapy generally running once-weekly for 16 or 24 weeks. I also offer long term work and time-limited EMDR work particularly around trauma. I am registered with ACAT, the TSP (Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists), the TSSP and the BACP. I adhere by the BACP code of ethical practice.

I have extensive experience of working with adults, and adolescents, who are struggling managing life challenges, and relationships. I value the importance of creating a non-judgmental, warm and safe space, and working collaboratively, with empathy, to understand patterns of relating to create a scaffolding to promote positive change and self-understanding and compassion. Developing a trusting and therapeutic relationship I believe is key to feeling able to share your story and feel understood without judgement. A space where you can be yourself and where we can think together about the challenges you are facing which have brought you to look for a therapist.

I appreciate the challenges of starting therapy and knowing what approach would be most helpful for you. I offer an initial consultation to explain how therapy works and assess your individual needs - where you are now and where you want to be. I am also happy to talk over the phone initally if this might be useful.

My private practice is based in Richmond and I can offer an early morning appointment for those wanting to see a therapist before work. I also offer day time and evening appointments . My practice is conveniently located directly opposite Richmond Station (Postcode TW9 2PR) with access to both overground and underground trains and local bus services.
