Manchester & Online [Vanessa Fay]

I am a Clinical Psychologist, ACAT-accredited CAT Practitioner and MBT Practitioner.

Up to now, I have around 15 years' experience working in the NHS and during that time have worked with children through to older adults. I have established a specialist interest in working with adults with mental health difficulties akin to the EUPD diagnosis, working in positive, anti-pathologising ways and from trauma-informed perspectives. I also work with people who experience symptoms in line with bipolar affective disorder, cPTSD, anxiety and depression etc. Outside of diagnostic frameworks, my work is about helping people who are seeking increased awareness, self-development and healing connections through engaging in therapy.

I deliver teaching to doctoral trainees on ways to meaningfully and therapeutically work with equality, diversity and inclusion in therapies, particularly in terms of ways to adapt CAT to consider such factors when alliance-building, formulating, intervening and evaluating the therapy. This reflects my interest in thinking about power, privilege, and positionality in the therapeutic relationship, especially in terms of the effects of racisms and white privilege. I also enjoy working with LGBTQ+ people and am interested in intersectionality and celebrating diversity.

Currently I work in a Specialist Psychotherapy Service offering CAT, Psychodynamic Interpersonal Therapy (PIT), and Mentalisation Based Treatment (MBT). As of January 2023, I am facilitating a CAT supervision group there.

I can provide CAT, including training therapies for CAT Practitioner trainees and personal reformulations.

I have many years’ experience clinically supervising people of various mental health professions, including High Intensity Therapists, Crisis Provision Workers, Clinical Psychologists and Trainees, Social Workers, and Psychotherapists.

I am happy to work online.
