Helmsley [Melanie Jane Bradley]

Hi, I'm Jane Bradley and I have worked in mental health services within the NHS for 24 years. I have been a CAT Practitioner for 13 years and CAT supervisor for 4 years. Relationships can be confusing at times, not only our relationships with others but also our relationship with ourselves. I am passionate about CAT as it helps us make sense of our difficulties and find solutions. My professional background is in Occupational Therapy (OT) where I specialised in working, both on a 1.1 basis and in group settings, developing client's self esteem, assertiveness skills, and anxiety/stress management skills. As an OT I think of people holistically, that is linking mind and body and treating the whole person as well as acknowledging that we all need meaning and purpose in our lives which can so often get skewed in today's busy, competitive world. Relationships are a big part of this, not only relationships with others but the relationship we have with ourselves. In 2009 I gained my accreditation in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) and from then whilst still holding my OT values, I have worked as a full time Psychological Therapist. My CAT training gave me the skills to develop an understanding of why we have these difficulties, where they originate from and how as a result, we often develop coping strategies that may seem to help short term but in reality, just end up keeping us stuck in behaviours that continue to cause us distress. Since 2010 I have worked in a specialist service for people with personality and relational difficulties often as a result of traumatic relational experiences in early life. I have since then continued to develop my skills and completed training in Mentalization Based Therapt (MBT) to Practitioner level, Compassionate Focussed Therapy (CFT) skills training as well as DBT skills training. I am also an accredited CAT supervisor and supervise CAT trainees during their own training. I work drawing on all my skills to help people find solutions to their difficulties within the framework of CAT.

I work privately in the lovely market town of Helmsley in North Yorkshire on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I do face to face therapy as well as online if preferred. My hours are 9.30 - 4 for in Helmsley but I also offer evening work on those days from 6 pm - 8 pm, (online only for evening work).

It can be daunting to admit that we are struggling and need help but rest assured that we all struggle at times and I understand how difficult this must have been to reach this point. I am here to listen and work alongside you using my skills and your experiences so that together we can try and find a path out of your difficulties.
